In his post-match comments last night, Trap revealed that he is open to playing 4-5-1 to shore up the midfield.

WITH JUST FIVE days until their opening game and having watched his side being overrun by Hungary at times last night, Giovanni Trapattoni says he is thinking of mixing it up.

The Italian has stuck with a fairly rigid 4-4-2 for the majority of his time in charge of Ireland, basing it around two deep-lying central midfielders, disciplined wingers and a pair of strikers.

However, presumably feeling that midfields of Croatia, Spain and Italy might be too much for Glenn Whelan and Keith Andrews to handle, Trap now claims he is toying with the idea of sacrificing one front man.

“To have a balance we have to give up one striker or put one more in midfield,” he said on RTE.ie. ”In the past I know this position. I know this line up.”
