2 PL stars make the top 10 as The Guardian's 100 best footballers list is revealed

Meanwhile, two Irish players feature way down the pecking order.

THE ANNUAL LIST of the world’s top 100 footballers published by The Guardian has been revealed, with Lionel Messi regaining the top spot after he finished runner-up to Cristiano Ronaldo in 2014.

Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez were the only two Premier League players to finish inside the top 10, as they were ninth and 10th respectively, while new entrants in the top 100 included Anthony Martial (66), Jamie Vardy (68) and Dimitri Payet (90).

Two Irish players featured on the periphery of the list, with Robbie Keane 189th and Seamus Coleman joint 219th.

123 judges from 49 countries ultimately cast almost 5,000 votes, with ex-international stars Gheorghe Hagi, Zico and Javier Zanetti among those taking part.
