THEY MAY BE leading Ligue Un but nouveau riche Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly fired their manager.

The French club beat St Etienne 1-0 last night to take a three-point lead over Montpellier going into the winter break but club director Leonardo has informed Antoine Kombouare that he has been relieved of his duties, according to news agency AFP.

This latest news comes as speculation over David Beckham’s proposed move to Paris mounts.

Beckham’s five-year spell with LA Galaxy has ended and PSG’s Qatari owners see bringing the 36-year-old to the French capital as a major coup to strengthen their global brand.

With monthly wages of approximately €800,000 said to be on the table and the possibility of European football next season, the former England captain is considering a switch but the deal has yet to be finalised.

Qatar Sports Investments bought a 70% stake in the club back in May and went about splashing €80million on revamping the first team.

Argentine star Javier Pastore, Kevin Gameiro, Diego Lugano, Mohamed Sissoka and Jeremy Menez were all brought in as they set their sights on Champions League football.

Kombouare, a player at the club during the early ’90s, took over as manager in 2009 and while he is on track to win the first title since 1994, the owners are said to want a bigger name.

Former Chelsea and AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti is favourite for the post but Dutchman Frank Rijkaard, former player Claude Makelele and Rafa Benitez have all been mentioned as possible replacements.
