ROB HEFFERNAN WILL have to wait until next week to discover if he will receive an Olympic bronze medal.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have this morning announced a decision in the case of Russian athlete Sergey Kirdyapkin will now not be made for ‘a few days’.

Kirdyapkin was banned for three years by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency last January and if he is stripped of his gold medal from London 2012, Heffernan would be upgraded from fourth to third.

It was widely expected the Cork athlete would discover his fate today but the panel of arbitrators will instead deliberate their decision after hearing the final case on Friday.

Five Russian racewalkers, who all tested positive for EPO, are in front of the CAS in Switzerland.

“The six appeals filed at the CAS by the IAAF in 2015 against the ARAF and Sergey Kirdyapkin, Sergey Bakulin, Olga Kaniskina, Valeriy Borchin and Vladimir Kanaikin are close to conclusion,” a statement read.
