Rooney is now level with Bobby Charlton on 249 goals after today’s early opener against Reading.

NO PLAYER IN history has scored more Manchester United goals than Wayne Rooney.

Despite enduring what has largely been a disappointing season by his own high standards, Rooney has equalled United’s all-time goalscoring record in this afternoon’s FA Cup third-round tie against Reading.

With just seven minutes on the clock at Old Trafford, Rooney turned in a cross from Juan Mata after good work down the left by Anthony Martial.

The strike was Rooney’s 249th for United — the same number of goals that was scored for the club by the legendary Bobby Charlton.
