Blow for Sam Bennett as he suffers fall on the final stage in Turkey

The Carrick-On-Suir native suffered a crash on the second last corner of the stage.

THERE WAS DISAPPOINTMENT for Ireland’s Sam Bennett on the final day of the Tour of Turkey, as he suffered a crash at the second last bend of the stage.

The Bora–Hansgrohe cyclist was in third place as he tried to take the turn, with a chance of clinching the sprinter’s jersey within his grasp.

But he lost control as his wheels started to skid, which resulted in him crashing into the advertisement railing.

Edward Theuns of Belgium capitalised on Bennett’s misfortune to take the stage victory and win the points classification.

It was particularly disappointing for the Irish man after managing to get his campaign back on track with a stage win on Saturday.

That result saw his record extend to four wins from five after losing the leader’s jersey on Friday.

But it was not to be on the final day, Diego Ulissi of the United Arab Emirates came home as the overall winner.
