IT WASN’T THE final round Waterford golfer Seamus Power was hoping for at the Sanderson Farms Championships in Mississippi.

Going into Sunday, he was tied for third and still in contention. But by the end of proceedings, he had to settle for tied 18th place following a round of 75.

Power finished on six-under for the tournament, making just a single birdie and dropping four strokes on the final day of action. Bogeys on the 16th and 18th denied him of a higher place as he finished 13 shots off the winner.

Ryan Armour scooped his maiden PGA Tour title, easing to a five-stroke win after leading the tournament from start to finish.

The 41-year-old American carded a four-under par 68, his fourth consecutive round below 70, to take the title and finish comfortably ahead of fellow countryman Chesson Hadley.

The win came in Armour’s 105th career start of the tour. He turned pro in 1999 and has since bounced between the PGA Tour and the developmental circuit.

“I’m tearing up. I’m not going to lie,” he said afterwards.

“There were some lean times. I thought about quitting, but my wife wouldn’t let me. Thank God. I love her.

“It goes back to have faith in what you do. You know if you believe in something, go do it, work hard at it and have fun doing it.”
