Sligo Rovers 5-0 UCD

SLIGO ROVERS’ BAD league form looks to have come to an end as the Bit o’Red picked up their second win of the season with a 5-0 win over UCD at The Showgrounds tonight.

The Bit o’Red took the lead in the first-half through an Alan Keane penalty, before Paul O’Conor notched to make it 2-0 at half-time. Aaron Greene and Danny Ledwith both scored before Alan Keane’s missed penalty fell to Eric Odhiambo, who then made it 5-0.

Sligo Rovers took the lead on 26 minutes when Aaron Greene was taken down in the box by Tomas Boyle, who was given his marching orders and sent for an early shower. Alan Keane stepped up, and slotted past Conor O’Donnell to give the Bit o’Red the lead.

Just ten minutes later, Ian Baraclough’s men doubled their tally for the night. Ross Gaynor played the ball back to Paul O’Conor, whose stunning volley beat O’Donnell in goal.

Rovers showed no signs of giving up, though, and extended their lead even further on 66 minutes through Aaron Greene, whose spectacular header from Kieran Djilali’s cross hit the back of the net.

And just two minutes later UCD were further put to the sword when former student Danny Ledwith made it 4-0 with a left-footed volley from Aaron Greene’s assist.

The night was to get worse for UCD, who conceded another penalty on 77 minutes when Kieran Djilali was taken down in the box. Alan Keane’s penalty was saved by O’Donnell, but Eric Odhiambo scored the rebound.
