Team Ireland has one more golfer confirmed for Rio as Stephanie Meadow gets the call

The 24-year-old joins Leona Maguire, Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power.

A FOURTH IRISH golfer has been guaranteed her place at the Rio Olympics.

With Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry pulling out, Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power will represent Team Ireland in the men’s event.

Cavan native Leona Maguire was initially the only female assured of a spot, although Antrim’s Stephanie Meadow was named on the reserves list.

And this afternoon, it was confirmed that 24-year-old Meadow, who finished third in the US Women’s Open in 2014, will compete in Brazil next month.

Dutch pair Christel Boeljon and Anne van Dam did not reach the Dutch Olympic Committee’s requirement of a top 60 Olympic ranking and a position in the top 100 golfers in the world, meaning they won’t be sent to the Games.
