That was quick! Ireland advertise for new scrum coach after Twickenham mauling

Are you the person to ensure that Saturday’s scrum nightmare never happens again? Give the IRFU a call.

SATURDAY’S SCRUM NIGHTMARE at Twickenham may take a while to fade from the memory, but the IRFU has moved to make sure it never happens again by advertising for a specialist coach to develop Ireland’s scrummaging talent.

The Irish pack was badly exposed in the 30-9 defeat against England, with coach Declan Kidney highlighting the loss of Mike Ross to injury when asked to explain his side’s disastrous showing.

With those wounds still raw, the IRFU this morning posted an ad seeking a coach with “expert knowledge in the area of scrummaging and a proven track record of achievement” to manage their newly-established high performance scrum programme.

The coach will have no responsibility for the national and senior provincial teams, who keep their existing coaching arrangements, but will work instead to implement the programme in the provincial academies as well as in the national and provincial underage representative teams.

Timing, eh?
