The Sunday Game point out that Galway's win casts new light on storm over Cusack's Cork comments

The issue was addressed last Sunday night.

THE SUNDAY GAME have suggested that Galway’s All-Ireland semi-final win provides fresh context for the heated debate that emerged last month over Cork’s quarter-final loss to the Tribesmen.

Donal Óg Cusack’s criticism of Cork GAA structures on The Sunday Game on Sunday 26 July created a storm in the wake of Cork’s heavy defeat that day in Semple Stadium.

Last night’s Cork county board meeting saw delegates hit back at Cusack, unhappy with his potrayal of them as ‘stooges’ and ‘yes-men’.

One delegate outlined that he had complained personally to RTÉ about the incident.

But an official retraction of the comments is unlikely to take place as the issue was already addressed on last Sunday’s programme with presenter Des Cahill highlighting Galway’s progress.

“It is a fantastic win for Galway,” stated Cahill.

“Perhaps it puts the quality of their performance into context because maybe Galway haven’t been given enough credit this season.

“When they beat Cork, many of the Rebels fans were treating it as a disaster.

“Indeed we’d a fairly robust discussion on their hurling structures here on the programme, some pointed language about the administrators of the Cork county board that was considered unnecessary by some in the context of that discussion.

“But in fact we now see, Cork were beaten by a fantastic Galway side.”
