Tim Sherwood is back with a new director of football role

The ex-Tottenham boss has linked up with League One side Swindon.

FORMER TOTTENHAM MANAGER Tim Sherwood was appointed as director of football at third tier strugglers Swindon on Thursday.

Sherwood had been tipped to take charge at Championship club QPR, but he has opted for a surprise move to Swindon as he returns to the game following his sacking by Aston Villa in October 2015.

The 47-year-old played with Swindon chairman Lee Power at Norwich and had previously sent players to the County Ground on loan during his time at Tottenham.

“I’ve had other offers but it’s an interesting project I’ve had a close eye on for four years since I started loaning players to Swindon,” Sherwood said.

“I’ve got a soft spot for this club. Let’s make sure we stay in the league and start climbing up the table.”

Luke Williams will remain Swindon’s head coach after being recommended to Power by Sherwood.

Sherwood arrives with Swindon fourth bottom of League One after winning just one of their last 10 games in all competitions.

Former England midfielder Sherwood was sacked by Tottenham in May 2014 despite leading the team to a sixth place finish in the Premier League during his five-month spell as interim manager.
