CHRISTOPHE DOMINICI WAS one of France’s greatest ever wings but despite scoring 25 tries at international level, he is probably best remembered for one he didn’t get. Italy were beaten 25-0 by Les Bleus back in 2004 but the Stade flyer received a lot of stick for making a hash of this easy chance.
Bernard Laporte’s reaction at the time was exactly what you would expect from Bernard Laporte:
“It was unacceptable and an imbecilic thing to do. It’s a lack of respect for the team, for all the work that has been done during the week and for himself. It’s a professional fault but you cannot ban a player for life because of a mistake, however stupid it was,” he said to the BBC.
Treviso scrum-half Henry Senioli probably got a similar bollocking after his error yesterday. With Treviso leading 13-3 against the Scarlets, Senioli had an easy chance to put another try on the board.
Why he decided to do this… only he knows.
Of course, the Welsh side went on to win 17-13 so Senioli’s howler ended up costing his team the game. Christophe Dominici is probably delighted that someone has taken the spotlight off him 11 years on.
