IRISHMAN JAY O’SHEA has been named player of the month for November in League One.

Having scored six times last month, O’Shea has been recognised as the top performer in England’s third tier during a difficult spell for his club, Chesterfield, who are currently in the relegation zone.

The 28-year-old Dubliner has been with Chesterfield since he left MK Dons in 2013. The winger first moved to England when he left Galway United for Birmingham City in 2009.

“I am honoured to have been chosen to win the award,” O’Shea said. “I was very pleased with my form in November but, more importantly, it was great that we managed to pick up a number of wins.”

O’Shea, who has represented Ireland at U21 level, began his career with St Joseph’s Boys and Home Farm. He later had spells in the League of Ireland with Bray Wanderers and Galway, before then-Birmingham manager Alex McLeish brought him to St Andrew’s.

“It is a fitting reward for Jay, who had an excellent month,” said Chesterfield bosss Danny Wilson. “His goals helped us to back-to-back league victories, which gave the team a great boost.”
