Van der Vaart to miss Rovers tie following Europa League snub

The midfielder expressed bewilderment after he was left out of his side’s squad for the competition.

SHAMROCK ROVERS FANS hoping to see Dutch star Rafael van der Vaart play in the flesh are set to be disappointed, after the player was left out of Tottenham’s Europa League squad.

Van der Vaart expressed frustration at being left out of the squad and claims Spurs are “not interested” in the competition.

He told The Sun:

“I would have loved to play in the Europa League. It would have helped me regain some rhythm.”

He would, however, be available to play if Spurs advance from their group, as clubs are entitled to add three more players to their team in the knockout stages.

Van der Vaart also expressed disappointment that he was not told about the decision before it was announced, telling his official website:

“I still think it’s a peculiar situation. Spurs could at least have consulted me.”

The player has been a success since joining Tottenham last year, starring in their Champions League run. However, he has also been dogged by persistent injury problems while at the club, which have caused him to miss the opening games of this season.
