Swedish defender left out of Benfica squad amid Man United speculation

Victor Lindelof’s future remains the subject of much debate and he was a surprise omission from the squad for Thursday night’s clash.

VICTOR LINDELOF HAS been left out of Benfica’s squad for the clash against FC Pacos de Ferreira amid ongoing speculation surrounding a move to Manchester United.

The defender had been widely tipped to move to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens in January and his agent has admitted Benfica have received formal bids for the 22-year-old.

However, more recent reports have suggested Jose Mourinho’s men have lost interest in Lindelof due to the current form of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo in central defence.

The Red Devils also have Chris Smalling coming back from injury while Daley Blind can also play centre-back, although they are set to lose Eric Bailly to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

However, Lindelof was surprisingly left out of Benfica’s squad for Thursday’s Primeira Liga which looks set to reignite speculation over his future.

Benfica won the game 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Franco Cervi.
