Vikings land quarterback Sam Bradford in big trade with Eagles

The Vikings landed quarterback Sam Bradford on Saturday in a trade, giving them a veteran replacement for injured Teddy Bridgewater.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS, DESPERATE for a quarterback to replace the injured Teddy Bridgewater, have acquired veteran Sam Bradford in a trade with Philadelphia Eagles.

In return, the Eagles will acquire the Vikings’ first-round pick in 2017 and their fourth-round pick in 2018.

Bradford, the odd man out in Philadelphia’s quarterback battle despite signing a two-year, $35 million deal in March, brings a checkered resume to the Vikings.

No one questions the 28-year-old’s talent, but the former No. 1 overall pick in 2010 has missed significant playing time, including the entire 2014 season, because of injuries.

Bridgewater, who started 28 games at quarterback for the Vikings the previous two seasons, dislocated his left knee, tore his anterior cruciate ligament and suffered other damage in a freak injury in practice on Tuesday. The Vikings placed him on the injured reserve list a day later.

That essentially left the Vikings with journeyman quarterback Shaun Hill to lead the team. Undrafted rookie Joel Stave, who had been elevated to the team’s number two quarterback role, started Minnesota’s pre-season finale.

Bradford will be reunited with Vikings tight ends coach Pat Shurmur, who was the Eagles offensive coordinator last season and worked with Bradford for two seasons when the two were with the St Louis Rams.
