WATERFORD HAVE BEEN confirmed as First Division champions, after Cabinteely prevailed 3-0 away to Cobh Ramblers tonight.

A win last night for Alan Reynolds’ side meant that, with two games to spare, anything other than a Cobh victory this evening would see the league leaders secure their place in the Premier Division.

Stephen Henderson’s men must now settle for a second-place finish, after they were convincingly defeated at St Colman’s Park.

Joe Doyle’s goal gave Cabo a 1-0 lead at half-time, before the same player doubled their advantage after the break.

Dean Casey’s effort then sealed victory for the visitors, in the process confirming Waterford as league champions for 2017.

Elsewhere tonight in the First Division, third-place UCD drew 1-1 away to Longford, who are a place below the Students in fourth.

David O’Sullivan gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, but Rob Manley’s 69th-minute equaliser was enough to earn his side a point.
