Woodley to defend welterweight title for the first time at UFC 205, McGregor fight rumoured

Potential high-profile fights with Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz failed to materialise.

IT’S BEEN CONFIRMED that Tyron Woodley will defend his welterweight title for the first time at UFC 205 in New York’s Madison Square Garden on 12 November.

Woodley will compete against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, with the American fighter making the announcement on Fox Sports 2′s weigh-in show.

It’s Woodley’s first fight since he stunned Robbie Lawler to claim the welterweight title at UFC 201.

With more high-profile fights with Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz failing to materialise, Woodley takes on Thompson, who has won his last seven consecutive fights.

It will be Thompson’s first fight since defeating Rory MacDonald in a unanimous decision last June.

Meanwhile, a fight between Conor McGregor and lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is also rumoured to be in the works for the UFC 205 card, though it has yet to be confirmed.
