Wexford's Good Counsel lifted the Leinster senior football colleges title today
Good Counsel saw off St Mary’s Edenderry in the decider.

WEXFORD’S GOOD COUNSEL New Ross claimed the Leinster senior A football colleges crown this afternoon with a 0-13 to 0-11 win over St Mary’s Edenderry at Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow.

Victory for the Wexford school gave them their fourth title at this level and their first since 1999 against St Mary’s who were bidding for a third final win in seven years. Good Counsel avenged their 2009 final loss to the Offaly outfit and gave Wexford football a boost in the process.

Good Counsel made the brighter start to be ahead 0-4 to 0-2 after the opening quarter but St Mary’s hit back to draw level and they went in front 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval.

The second-half was closely contested with the teams level at 0-10 apiece with ten minutes left but Good Counsel made a decisive burst to claim a two-point victory at the finish.

They now advance to the Hogan Cup semi-finals where they will face the winners of the Connacht decider between Roscommon CBS and Summerhill College Sligo.
