THERE WAS GOOD news for Ireland U21 international Jack Byrne this week as the promising youngster agreed a new deal three-year deal with Manchester City.

The following day, it was announced that the 19-year-old midfielder Byrne was joining Eredivisie club SC Cambuur on a season-long loan in a bid to gain first team experience.

The Dutch club faced amateur opposition in vvDTD in a friendly last night and Byrne made his bow after half-time as manager Henk de Jong rang in 11 changes at the break.

A few minutes later, however, the Dubliner’s debut ended prematurely as he was forced off with “a seemingly nasty ankle injury”.

Hopefully it isn’t serious as Byrne will be eager to establish himself in the first team as quickly as possible.
