Connacht extend Sean O'Brien's contract until 2020
The powerful, versatile Galwegian is currently sidelined with a shoulder problem.

CONNACHT HAVE UNDERLINED their faith in the homegrown talent of Sean O’Brien by handing the Galwegian a two-year extension to keep him at the Sportsground until at least 2020.

The 22-year-old is currently sidelined until the New Year with a shoulder injury sustained in the September win over Southern Kings, but his talents look set to make him a cornerstone on Connacht’s pack for many years ahead.

“In the coming two years I hope to represent the people and the club of Connacht with pride,” O’Brien said.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity and hope to fulfil my personal ambitions and bring further success to the club.”

A former Ireland U20 captain, O’Brien has played the majority of his 40 caps for the western province in the back row, but is also well capable of slotting into at lock.

“We are thrilled to see the way he has progressed through our academy and into our senior professional side,” added head coach Kieran Keane, who has been able to call on O’Brien just twice in this campaign.
