Driver dies after crash with minibus carrying 14 children

The car and minibus collided last night just outside Longford.

A MAN HAS died after the car he was driving crashed with a minibus that was carrying 14 children.

The crash happened outside Longford Town yesterday night at about 11.10 pm when the car and minibus collided at Corboy.

Both vehicles were travelling along the main Dublin to Longford Road when the collision occurred.

The 36-year-old man was the sole occupant of the car with the minibus was carrying 14 children and two adults.

The man was seriously injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene before being taken to Mullingar Hospital.

A number of ambulances were sent to the scene and paramedics treated the children and adults who were on the minibus. The driver of the minibus was taken to Mullingar Hospital where his injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The road is currently closed to allow for an investigation of the scene and gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.
