THINGS WE LEARNED

#IMF: In its latest update on Ireland’s progress under the bailout, the International Monetary Fund has warned of the need for the government to get a deal on its banking debt while also suggesting that the property tax should be levied at 0.5 per cent of the value of the house. But Finance Minister Michael Noonan says that’s not happening.

#ARRESTS: Three people have been arrested in connection with the death of two men at a house in Kinsale in Co Cork over the weekend. The two men and one woman have been arrested over the last 24 hours in Cork city.

#ALAN RYAN: The controversy over the events at the funeral of Real IRA member Alan Ryan over the weekend rumbles on with the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Naoise Ó Muirí, saying the sight of people in paramilitary-style uniforms at the funeral was “wholly unacceptable and belongs in the past”.

#CHILDREN’S REFERENDUM: The next big campaign is likely to be the children’s referendum in November with the Children’s Minister Frances Fitzgerald saying today that those concerned about the potential constitutional change should not worry about children being forced to undergo ‘forced vaccinations’.

#ALPS SHOOTING: Bomb disposal experts were called to the home of the victims of the French Alps shooting last week to investigate potential hazardous material earlier today but upon inspection the team was stood down. Meanwhile BBC News reports that investigators now believe just one gun was used in the shooting.

#TIDY TOWN: Ireland’s tidiest town has been revealed today as Abbeyshrule, a small Longford village which beat a record 855 entries into first place.

THINGS WE LOVED

• We were delighted to learn that Vincent Browne is back on our screens later tonight after a five week hiatus. Check out this picture of him rocking not one but two computers. Like a boss.
• We absolutely loved the story of the man who was caught by authorities in India trying to board a plane… with a monkey in his pants. As you do.
• Not only do we love this picture of US vice president Joe Biden getting up close and personal with a biker at a cafe in Ohio yesterday but we were tickled by the look on the other bikers’ faces:

THINGS WE SHARED

• While Biden was having fun in Ohio, Barack Obama was getting lifted out of it. Literally.
• We don’t know about you but we’re pretty excited about this special guest appearance at The Palace Nightclub in Tullamore later in the month.
• Cloud Atlas, an epic adventure film based on the book by David Mitchell, will be in our cinemas later this year and the latest trailer contains some pretty stunning imagery as well as an all-star cast as Vulture has noted in this good read. Here’s the trailer:
