SENIOR STAR PADRAIC Tinnelly struck the winning goal as Louth secured a statement Dalata Hotel Group Leinster U20 football champions win over Dublin.
Fresh off their Round 1 demolition of Westmeath, Fergal Reel’s Louth led the Dubs from start to finish at Parnell Park.
Louth were four points up at half time and surged seven clear after Tinnelly, a late addition to the lineup, crashed home a 56th minute goal.
Louth were grateful to goalkeeper Tiarnan Markey too, another player with senior experience, as his save from Dublin’s Rian Doherty shortly after the Tinnelly goal was huge.
Dublin did grab a goal late on when Donach Magee brought his tally for the evening to 1-2. And a Doherty two-pointer that bounced over the ball cut the deficit to just three points.

Doherty had a chance right at the death to level it after being played in on the left but struck his shot into the side netting as Louth held on.
It leaves Louth top of Group 1 while Westmeath have joined Dublin in joint second spot after beating Wexford.
Meath, beaten in last year’s Leinster final, are top of Group 2 after another big win, this time taking out Laois with goals from Cormac O’Donoghue, Ben Corkery and Pat Crawley.
Longford built on a three-point half-time lead in the other Group 2 game to run out victors against Carlow.
And Kildare have finished top of the three-team Group 3, and secured their quarter-final place, after beating Offaly, Colm Moran with the goal.
All-Ireland title holders Tyrone made their own significant statement in Ulster, hammering Down after a surprise Round 1 loss to Cavan.
Brian Gallagher and Shea McDermott drilled two goals apiece as the Red Hands powered to the 18-point win.
There was drama at Celtic Park where Shane Callaghan snatched victory for Donegal over Derry in the last action of the game.
Senior ace Max Campbell netted early on for Donegal but it took Callaghan’s late heroics to secure a fourth win from four for a Donegal side also containing Finbarr Roarty and Kevin Muldoon.
Armagh and Monaghan were the other big winners in Ulster.
