IT’S BEEN QUITE a day for Munster and Ireland back rower Peter O’Mahony, becoming the 11th man from this island to be named as captain of the British and Irish Lions.
It’s been a remarkable rise for the Cork man over the last few months, recovering from injury, winning his place back in the Ireland team, and now leading a combined Lions unit against the best team in the world.
Congratulations have unsurprisingly come in thick and fast for O’Mahony, from home and abroad, and from many different codes.

Greats of world and Irish sport congratulate O'Mahony on Lions captaincy
