WATCH: Nike celebrate the Grand Slam that never was

Hate to break it to you lads, but you have to win all five games to call it a “Grand Slam.”

NIKE MIGHT WANT to stop trying to “write the future” and simply stick to manufacturing sports gear after their latest advertising campaign failed to get off the ground.

It seems that the sporting giant’s ad executives were so confident that the English rugby team would steamroller their way to a Grand Slam that they took the liberty of commissioning an ad congratulating Martin Johnson’s men on their clean sweep.

The ad which features slow-motion footage of English stars including Ben Foden, Toby Flood and a mid-swallow-dive Chris Ashton closes with the word “Onwards” – a reference to the forthcoming Rugby World Cup in New Zealand – and the banner “Grand Slam Champions 2011.”

Of course, Saturday’s 24-8 defeat at the hands of Ireland meant that although England won the Six Nations championship, the side failed to capture their first Grand Slam since 2003.

Timing is everything, eh lads?
