KILDARE LADIES HAVE lost another key member of their panel, following the retirement of All-Ireland winning captain Aisling Holton, according to KFM Sport.
The Balyna native had reportedly considered retirement after helping Kildare to a first ever All-Ireland intermediate crown last year, which saw the Lilywhites reclaim their senior status.
She returned to the panel in January, but following a second successive defeat in the Lidl Ladies National football League, the midfielder has decided to retire from inter-county football.
In addition to Holton, Kildare have also lost the services of All-Star goalkeeper Mary Hulgraine, Maria Moolick, and Noelle Earley for 2017.
The Kildare ladies were also dealt a blow, when manager William O’Sullivan stepped down from his position after just one training session at the start of the year.
O’Sullivan was appointed in December to succeed All-Ireland winning manager Alan Barry. The Kerry native cited a lack of numbers at training, as his reason for stepping away from the job.
Holton’s absence at midfield will be a major loss for Kildare this year. Her part in the county’s victorious campaign, earned Holton the Intermediate Players’ Player of the Year award for 2016.
