ALAN SHEARER HAS a bit of a reputation. As a player, he was pretty one-dimensional. No flair, just relentlessly explosiveness in front of goal.
Similarly, since becoming a pundit with the BBC, he’s come in for criticism for his lack of personality and charisma. His collection of grey cardigans a seemingly perfect metaphor.
But, in a bizarre turnaround, it seems we’ve had him all wrong for a while.
The former Newcastle and Blackburn striker, whose record of 260 Premier League goals will take some beating, took his first tentative steps into the world of social media world four days ago when he joined Twitter.
Many expected a collection of bland tweets to follow but instead, he got straight down to business with some epic bantz.
He’s well able for the inevitable abuse too, reveling in his new-found online persona.
Newcastle’s travails this season have provided Shearer with plenty of material and there were more Magpie-related zingers earlier today.
And, tapping into a recent phenomenon, Shearer also loves an emoji to go along with any one-liner.
Alan Shearer: legendary goalscorer and now, legendary Twitter personality.
