THE CORK, CLARE and Dublin hurlers are some of the high-profile teams that will be keeping a close eye on the GAA qualifier draws next Monday morning (20 June).
The next stage of the All-Ireland qualifier draws sees those for Round 1 of hurling and Round 2A of football take place.
They will take place after the 8.30am news on Morning Ireland RTÉ Radio One.
Here’s the formats and all the information you need to know:
Round 1 Hurling
The games will take place on 2nd/3rd July with eight teams in contention. We already know six of the teams and they will be joined by the losers of Sunday’s games between Offaly and Galway, and the meeting of Tipperary and Limerick.
- Leinster teams – Laois, Dublin, Westmeath, Wexford, Offaly/Galway
- Munster teams – Clare, Cork, Limerick/Tipperary
The teams will be drawn against each other from two bowls which will consist of:
1. Four Leinster championship teams
2. Three Munster plus one Leinster championship team
The Leinster championship team in the Munster group must be one of the two teams who emerged from the round-robin qualifier series.
That will be either Offaly or Westmeath but definitely Westmeath if Offaly win on Sunday to advance to the Leinster final. If Offaly lose, a draw will be made to determine whether it will be them or Westmeath.
Repeat pairings are not allowed here, so Offaly v Laois or Westmeath v Galway will not be permitted.
Round 2A Football
The four games here will take place on the weekend of 2nd/3rd July.
- Round 1A winners – Leitrim/Waterford, Laois/Armagh, Derry/Louth, Carlow/Wicklow.
- Defeated ‘A’ side provincial semi-finalists – Meath/Dublin, Cavan/Tyrone, Clare, Sligo
A seperate draw will be made for home advantage. If two teams have met previously in this year’s provincial championship, the winner of the provincial game will have home advantage.
