A LIFE-SIZE BRONZE statue of legendary jockey AP McCoy has been unveiled at Cheltenham race course on the opening morning of this year’s festival.
The statue, crafted by Dublin-based sculptor Paul Ferriter, is situated on the Best Mate Blaza beside the north entrance of the course.
“I never thought at any stage when I was coming here that there would be a statue of me. I’m very proud and very honoured,” he said.
“For anybody that’s getting their picture with that statue, a lot of my friends would say that this statue has gotten a lot more personality that I have.”
McCoy retired at the end of the 2014/15 season as one of the most successful jump jockeys of all time, with wins in all the major races, including two Cheltenham Gold Cups, a King George VI Chase, a Grand National, and three Champion Hurdles.
