GALWAY SHC
LOUGHREA AND MULLAGH will be forced to meet again, as the sides drew 0-16 to 1-13 in the Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Finals yesterday. Meanwhile, in a thrilling affair, Gort edged out Padraig Pearses by a scoreline of 3-13 to 2-14.
The sending off of Andy Coen and a fantastic goal from Emmet Ward, in addition to a late comeback from Padraig Pearses, threatened to derail the favourites’ victory bid, however they ultimately overcame these obstacles to narrowly prevail.
ROSCOMMON SHC
Four Roads triumphed in another closely fought encounter against Padraig Pearses in the Roscommon SHC final replay. Despite trailing at half-time 0-6 to 0-5, they eventually won the game 1-12 to 1-9.
David Dolan, Cathal Kelly and David Loughnane were among the points scorers during the match.
CLARE SHC & SFC
In the game between Clonlara and Newmarket-on-Fergus in Cusack Park in the Clare SHC semi-final, the latter gained a hard-fought 0-12 to 1-8 win over their opponents to reach the final.
A Darach Honan goal had given Clonlara a 1-5 to 0-7 lead at half-time, before a strong second-half fightback eventually enabled Newmarket to progress.
In addition, in the SFC semi-final replay, Kilmurry Ibrickane beat Kilrush 0-11 to 3-1 in Doonbeg.Kilmurry started well, before Jim Young’s penalty gave their opponents hope, leaving the score 0-05 to 1-1 at half-time.
Rory O’Connor’s goal then put the underdogs in the lead, before Noel Downes won his side the game with a last-gasp point.
Kilmurry also had to overcome the added obstacle of playing with 14 men, after Declan Callinan was sent off towards the end of the game.
CORK SFC
In the Cork SFC quarter-final, Bishopstown narrowly lost out to Carbery Rangers, with the final score 1-11 to 1-10. It was a brave performance from the former, who trailed by a significant margin of 1-06 to 0-03 at half-time, before threatening to mount an unlikely second-half comeback.
It was an incredible match, and Bishopstown will rue what they’ll surely regard as a missed opportunity, having both missed a penalty and seen their opponents ultimately reduced to 12 men.
WATERFORD SFC
Stradbally secured a 2-12 to 0-12 win over Abbeyside-Ballinacourty in the Waterford SFC semi-final in Fraher Field. They had led 0-6 to 0-5 at half-time, before an excellent second-half performance, featuring goals from Niall Curran and Shane Ahearne, ensured they gained a comprehensive victory.
Finally, in the Waterford SFC quarter-final replay, The Nire defeated Kilrossanty 1-8 to 0-9. They had narrowly led 0-5 to 0-3 at the break, before a Shane Ryan goal put them firmly in control of the tie and ultimately proved the difference between the sides.
