'Ireland, baby, we did it!' Conor McGregor rips up the UFC's old order

The Notorious was crowned undisputed featherweight champion on an unforgettable night in Las Vegas.

JOSE ALDO WAS the only featherweight champion in the history of the UFC.

Then Conor McGregor came along.

“Ireland, baby, we did it,” McGregor roared as he celebrated his breathtaking 13-second KO at UFC 194.

After months and months of hype and expectation, The Notorious delivered on all of his pre-fight promises and handed Aldo his first defeat in more than 10 years.

The winning exchange was as quick as it was definitive. McGregor caught the Brazilian with a left hook, and followed his sprawling opponent to the canvas to finish the job in record time.

McGregor explained: “He’s powerful and he’s fast, but precision beats power and timing beats speed. That’s what you saw there.

“Honestly I feel for Jose. He was a phenomenal champion.

We deserved to go a little bit longer but I still feel that precision beats power and timing beats speed all day so it would have happened sooner or later.

And as he watched the replay of his finest moment on the big Las Vegas screens, he added: “No power, just precision. No speed, just timing.

“These are fundamentals. That’s all it takes, especially when you add my left hand. Nobody can take that left-hand shot.”
