Ex-Aston Villa star Dalian Atkinson, 48, dies after being tasered by police
A MAN WHO died after being shot with a taser by police in Telford, England, last night has been named as Dalian Atkinson.
The 48-year-old, who played for Aston Villa, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday, retired from football in 2001.
A West Mercia police statement this morning said that police responding to a call concerned with the safety of an individual at 01.30 used a taser on a man who was then pronounced dead at 03.00.
The incident has been automatically referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Atkinson is perhaps best remembered for his Goal of the Season-winning goal for Aston Villa against Wimbledon in 1992.
