DARYL HORGAN HAS been named SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for May.
Horgan has been rewarded for his impressive displays last month, with the Dundalk winger scoring three times in five competitive games — including the opener in last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Wexford Youths.
Dundalk, who are chasing a third consecutive Premier Division title, took five wins from five in May, including a 2-0 triumph against Shelbourne as they made a successful start to their defence of the FAI Cup.
Horgan has been instrumental in Dundalk’s campaign so far, as his performances have helped to ensure that the Lilywhites haven’t struggled since Richie Towell’s departure to Brighton.
Currently in his third season with Stephen Kenny’s side, 23-year-old Horgan has picked up the Player of the Month award for the third time in his career, making it two-in-a-row for Dundalk after Ronan Finn was recognised in April.
Dundalk will open up a seven-point gap at the top of the table tomorrow night if they can overcome second-placed Cork City — Horgan’s former club — at Turner’s Cross.
