DUBLIN ONLY NEEDED one attempt this year to see off Wexford as they booked a spot in a second consecutive Leinster Senior Hurling Championship final with a five point win in Wexford Park.
For their part, the home side will be left to rue far too many wides and failing to capitalise on the early dominance of Conor McDonald in the full-forward line.
It was McDonald’s presence that set up Wexford’s goal after eight minutes when he out-muscled Peter Kelly before feeding Podge Doran who finished well.
Dublin worked their way back into the game though and points from Paul Ryan, Alan McCrabbe and Colm Cronin brought them level at 0-8 to 1-5 after 26 minutes.
The Leinster champions never really looked back from there and outscored their hosts by three points to one in the closing stage of the half to go into the break with a 0-11 to 1-6 lead.
Paul Morris place balls and some wayward shooting from Dublin kept Wexford in the game in the second half but three long-range points in 60 seconds – two from Michael Carton and one from Ryan – effectively ended the game as a contest with nine minutes still to go.
While Wexford created two or three half chances, they never looked like raising the green flag again and so it’s Dublin who’ll go on to play either Galway or Kilkenny in the Leinster final as they seek to defend the title it took them 52 years to win.
