Glasgow suffer big injury blow for Saturday's semi-final against Connacht

The Scots will be without international centre Alex Dunbar for the crucial game at the Sportsground.

GLASGOW WARRIORS’ HOPES of retaining their Guinness Pro12 title have been dealt a major setback this afternoon.

The club confirmed today that Alex Dunbar will miss Saturday’s semi-final against Connacht at the Sportsground [6.30pm] after sustaining an injury during Glasgow’s defeat to Pat Lam’s side in Galway nine days ago.

A scan at BMI Ross Hall Hospital revealed a bone injury in the 26-year-old’s knee. The problem won’t require surgery but it will keep him out of action for the remainder of the season, including Scotland’s two-test tour of Japan next month.

Dunbar, who has scored five tries in 16 appearances for his country, will be replaced in the Scotland squad by Matt Scott, who’ll join Gloucester from Edinburgh next season.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “We’re disappointed for Alex that his season has been cut short through injury. He had been playing very well and played a big role in getting us into the Guinness Pro12 play-offs. We wish him all the best with his rehab and we look forward to him returning to training ahead of the new season.”

Since debuting in 2009, Dunbar has made 82 appearances for Glasgow Warriors and was named in the Pro12 Dream Team two seasons ago.
