End of the road? Pep Guardiola facing decision on Barcelona future

Nou Camp boss will hold a press conference tomorrow in which it’s reported he’ll announce his departure.

THE RUMOUR MILL has cranked up a few gears since Barcelona’s draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night.

And in the wake of the champions’ exit from the tournament and the title-deciding El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola is pondering his future.

Reports in Spain tonight suggest that he will decide to take a break from football and turn his back on a new contract. He is likely to announce his decision tomorrow.

The players were give two days off after the game in midweek but will reconvene tomorrow and be told the news before Guardiola and club chief Sandro Rosell hold a joint press conference at 1pm Irish time.

Speaking after the game with Chelsea on Tuesday, Guardiola said: “I will speak with Tito [Vilanova, assistant manager] and see what we have to do.

“Right now, we need to talk more about the emotion of our players and how they recover because there are many players that have been playing a long time. We have to go to Rayo Vallecano [this weekend]. We are still Barca. We have to continue doing things as we usually do them.”

Guardiola, a former club captain, has operated on short-term contracts throughout his managerial tenure and has always hinted he’d be prepared to walk away from the job.
