Erik Lamela denies dead dog is the reason for his continued absence

The Spurs winger insists that the reason he has not played since October is a hip injury.

TOTTENHAM ATTACKER ERIK Lamela has released a statement denying that his extended absence from action is due to the death of his dog.

The Spurs star often posted photographs of himself and pet Simba on social media accounts, but sadly lost his four-legged friend recently.

However, Lamela has refuted speculation in the UK media that he has not returned to his club because of this, telling fans that his spell on the sidelines is due to injury.

The 24-year-old issued a statement on Twitter, writing:

He added:

Missing White hart Lane every minute! Thanks to all of those who encourage me day by day!”

The Argentina international last played for Spurs in October, having made just nine Premier League appearances this season before being ruled out with a hip injury.
