The Group D table is looking a whole lot better for Ireland tonight

Ireland move ahead of Scotland into third place after Friday evening’s games.

IT WAS A good Friday to be an Irish football fan.

A 4-0 win against Gibraltar, coupled with Scotland’s shock defeat in Georgia, has breathed new life into the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

And with Germany beating Poland in Frankfurt, the race for the two automatic qualification places, and the playoff place, has been shaken up completely.

Germany’s 3-1 win sees them leapfrog Poland and go two points clear at the top of Group D.

Ireland are now in third place, two points behind Poland and one ahead of Scotland with three games to play.

Monday night’s game against Georgia in Dublin just became even more crucial.
