KEVIN MCLOUGHLIN’S SECOND-half goal helped Mayo to beat IT Sligo and make it two wins from two under Stephen Rochford.

McLoughlin finished with 1-2 while Mark Ronaldson hit four points from play as Mayo won by a comfortable 11 points in this afternoon’s FBD League Round 2 meeting.

In Tuam, Danny Cummins came off the bench to score a vital goal as Galway beat Leitrim by 1-8 to 1-5.

The afternoon’s big shock came at Collooney where GMIT beat Sligo by 1-10 to 0-12, while Roscommon ran out 0-12 to 0-8 winners against NUIG.

In the second round of Dr McKenna Cup fixtures, Derry fired four goals past a leaky Tyrone but still ended up losing an early-season classic at Owenbeg.

A Benny Heron goal and the first of two Ryan Bell penalties had Derry nine points up early on but Tyrone pulled back to within two at the break, 2-4 to 1-5, their goal coming through Patrick Quinn.

Bell tucked away his second penalty after the restart before Emmett McGuckin was shown a second yellow card, reducing Derry to 14 men.

And Tyrone finished strongest with three unanswered frees from Connor McAliskey giving them a narrow win.

Elsewhere there were wins for Armagh against Monaghan, and Fermanagh against Down, while Ryan Johnstone struck late on as St Mary’s came from behind to stun Donegal.
