'The processes that are in place work': Heaslip shoots down notion of doping problem in rugby

The Ireland and Leinster number eight says he has lost count of the number of times he has been tested for doping.

LEINSTER AND IRELAND number eight Jamie Heaslip today moved to further quash claims from journalist Paul Kimmage that there is an underlying problem with performance enhancing drugs in Irish rugby.

On the back of publication of the book ‘Rugby, where are your values’ by French writer Laurent Benezech, Kimmage has attempted to turn the spotlight onto a possible doping culture in the Irish game.

After being asked about his criticism of Kimmage’s Sunday Independent article on Twitter this week, Heaslip insisted that any use of performance enhancing drugs in the game would be quickly found.

“I just commented that he likes to leave things very open,” said Heaslip today.

“I think the processes that are in place work.

“I’ve lost count how many times I’ve [undergone a doping test]. Blood, urine, they do it all. Plenty of times. They’ve called to the house, they call here.”
