GOOD NEWS FOR all you who wished they could speak more Irish, TG4 has live and exclusive rights to all of this summer’s big Irish Rugby fixtures.
The senior squad [minus 10 British and Irish Lions] are in Houston and Toronto to face USA and Canada.
And the ever-entertaining Junior World Championship will take TG4 to Vannes in France for what’s sure to be a glorious tri-lingual try-fest from 5 to 23 June.
It’s the full internationals that will demand some odd viewing times from rugby fans in Ireland, though, as Ireland’s first Test against the USA will be broadcast at 1.20 am on Saturday night /Sunday morning of 9 June. While the game in Canada will be shown at 12.50 am seven days later.
Ireland’s junior squad will be shown at a much more sociable hour, with pool matches against Australia, Fiji and New Zealand all scheduled to get under way at 5.45 pm.
The broadcaster will also show the tournament’s semi-final and finals and sports editor Rónán Ó Coisdealbha highlighted that the games will be available on a free to view channel.
“We look forward to bringing these matches to TG4 viewers all over Ireland on free to view television and we are pleased that we are expanding the channel’s rugby portfolio which already includes rights to the Heineken Cup and the RaboDirect PRO12.”
