Irish eventing team are well in contention after dressage day

Meanwhile, Jonty Evans is also in contention for a medal in the individual event.

WITH THE DRESSAGE event now finished, the Irish eventing team lie in fifth place with a score of 135.60.

At the top of the leaderboard Germany and France are within a whisker of each other with Germany currently leading with a score of 122.00, while France are in second with a score of 122.20.

Third place is currently occupied by the Australians after posting a score of 126.40.

In the individual event, Jonty Evans has been Ireland’s best performer aboard Cooley Rorkes Drift, and after a solid performance in the first event, he lies in ninth place with a score of 41.80.

Great Britain’s William Fox-Pitt is in first place at present after he registered a score of 37.00.

Tomorrow, riders will move onto the cross-country event before finally participating in the showjumping event the day after.

Padraig McCarthy with Simon Porloe, Claire Abbot with Euro Prince and Mark Kyle with Jemilla also had commendable performances in the dressage discipline posting scores of 46.80, 47.00 and 50.40 respectively.
