FORMER WATERFORD FORWARD Dan Shanahan says that Lar Corbett is irreplacebale.
Corbett cited work and business commitments in his decision, having opened a bar in the town. And former opponent, Shanahan reckons Corbett’s decision must be respected.
“I’m as shocked as anyone else to be honest. He’s only 30 years of age but he’s there since he’s 19, having said that,” the Lismore clubman told the Out in Front podcast.
“So, the last 10 years – especially the past three or four years – he’s been amazing for Tipperary. He felt himself that his time was you know. It’s just a bit of a shock but it’s his decision and you have to respect it you know.
“He’s irreplaceable, he gets goals and goals wins matches. He’s been Tipp’s best forward, along with Eoin Kelly – the two danger men for Tipperary. But Lar gets goals,” he added. ”His pace, his hand passing, his movement, just everything about him is unbelievable. He’s a natural goalscorer if you know what I mean and he will be a big loss to Tipperary.”
Shanahan’s one-time team-mate John Mullane was also reported to have bowed out of intercounty hurling this week, but the De La Salle forward insits he’ll return for the championship.
