ONCE THE MOST underrated player in Martin O’Neill’s squad, Jon Walters has quickly become the most appreciated.
The Stoke forward became a national icon when his Bosnian brace ensured Ireland’s passage through to Euro 2016 but it was a performance which merely reinforced his standing as a bona fide legend.
One of the enduring images of the campaign was Shane Long racing through on goal before emphatically firing past Manuel Neuer.
But the moment which typified the never-say-die nature of Ireland’s qualification bid was Walters holding off two German players in the corner – and it provided the inspiration for a quality looking t-shirt.

“We’re all riding a wave of Euro-phoria, thanks largely to one man: Jon Walters,” Quinn said.
“In his honour, I have designed a t-shirt immortalising one of his finest moments in a green jersey. Rather than either of his fantastic strikes against Bosnia I have chosen his selfless ushering of the ball towards the corner flag in the dying moments of the Germany game. A true warrior.”
We’re not sure how long Walters kept the ball in the corner for or indeed how many German players he held off but what we do know is that we could all do with a bit of Jon Walters in our life.
The tank top version would be just the job for France 2016.
