Costa Rica's Navas to battle it out with Casillas after €10m Real Madrid move

The 27-year-old arrives from Levante having starred in the World Cup with the tournament’s surprise package.

COSTA RICA GOALKEEEPER Keylor Navas, one of the stars of this year’s World Cup, has completed his move to Real Madrid from Levante, the European champions have announced.

“Real Madrid CF and Levante UD have reached an agreement for the transfer of Keylor Navas, who will be contracted to the club for the next six years,” read a statement on Madrid’s website.

The Spanish capital club added that Navas, 27, will be presented at their Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Tuesday afternoon after undergoing a medical.

Sports daily Marca, which is closely linked to Madrid, reported that the club have paid the 10 million-euro (£8m) release clause in Navas’ contract.

Navas, who has spent the last two seasons in La Liga with Levante, was outstanding during unfancied Costa Rica’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals, where they only succumbed on penalties to the Netherlands.

He will compete with Iker Casillas for the goalkeeper’s jersey in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with Diego Lopez expected to leave the club.

Lopez was used by Ancelotti as his first-choice in La Liga last season, but Casillas featured in their victorious Champions League and Copa del Rey campaigns.
