no need to be upset

Liverpool have announced their first signing of the summer

Toure was due to be a free agent this summer but has penned a one-year extension, while Andre Wisdom has also agreed a long-term deal.

LIVERPOOL HAVE ANNOUNCED that Kolo Toure has signed a new one year contract at Liverpool and youngster Andre Wisdom has also agreed a new four-year deal that will keep him at the Anfield club until 2019.

Toure, 34, had been expected to move on this summer in search of regular first-team football, but has instead agreed the short-term extension. The Ivorian made 21 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ men over the course of the season, having joined on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2013.

A statement on Liverpool’s website read: “Liverpool FC are pleased to announce Kolo Toure has signed an extension to his contract with the club.

“The centre-back will remain with the Reds after putting pen to paper on the new deal.”

Wisdom meanwhile has signed a long-term contract with the Reds. The 22-year-old spent the season on loan at West Brom and featured 24 times for the Baggies this season. He featured heavily before Christmas but made only seven appearance following the appointment of Tony Pulis.

Liverpool’s decision to give him a new deal suggests he could be given a chance to stake a claim to remain in the first team squad when he returns for training in pre-season. Rodgers loves players who are versatile and Wisdom can play at right-back or centre-back. Liverpool lack options at right back in particular, with Jon Flanagan out injured again and Glen Johnson expected to leave this summer.
