Lance Armstrong should clean the slate, says Hamilton

‘There’s going to be consequences. It’s got to be hard. He’s got to be a broken soul right now.’

CONFESSED DRUG CHEAT Tyler Hamilton has urged disgraced former team-mate Lance Armstrong to come clean for his own peace of mind.

American rider Hamilton is one of 11 former Armstrong team-mates who agreed to testify against the seven-time Tour de France winner, who was stripped of those titles and banned for life by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in August.

Armstrong continues to deny he took performance-enhancing drugs but has opted not to fight the allegations. Hamilton retired in 2009 when he was handed an eight-year ban following a third positive test.

The 41-year-old admitted he was ‘prepared to go to the grave’ with his own doping secrets to protect himself and his ‘friends in the peloton’. However once caught, he knew he had to publicly face his mistakes and has urged Armstrong to follow suit.

“It’s never too late to tell the truth. There’s going to be consequences. It’s got to be hard. He’s got to be a broken soul right now,” Hamilton told Melbourne radio station SENon Wednesday. ”There’s probably a lot of money at stake if he tells the truth, but I guarantee he’s going to lead a much happier second half of his life if he comes out and comes clean.”
