As it happened: Bordeaux v Liverpool, Europa League

Bordeaux took on Liverpool as the Europa League group stages got underway.

Here’s a look at Liverpool’s starting lineup, with Irish teenager Daniel Cleary selected on the bench.

Brendan Rodgers says tonight is a chance for the starting Liverpool players to put their hands up for a place in the Premier League team.

Liverpool’s Premier League form might not be the best currently, but they do have a decent record in France.

We’re underway…

Interesting to note that Liverpool appear to have started with a 3-4-3 formation.

As I type, Moreno’s cross is comfortably collected by the goalkeeper.

Good link up play between Origi and Coutinho.

The Brazilian then takes a shot from just outside the box that goes narrowly wide.

Liverpool have started this game quite well.

The visitors have dominated in terms of possession and territory so far.

Bordeaux striker Rolan has just wasted an excellent chance.

A cross-field pass catches the Liverpool defence out, but the Uruguayan can only find the roof of the net as he attempts to lob Mignolet.

Kolo Toure has just been booked for cynically bringing down Khazri.

Meanwhile, Celtic have taken an early lead against Ajax thanks to a goal from Nir Bitton.

Toure is now hobbling and looks like he may come off.

If he can’t continue, teenage Irish defender Daniel Cleary might make his competitive debut from the bench.

After a bright start, Liverpool are starting to look a little vulnerable on the counter-attack.

Khazri has seen an attempt from the edge of the box go narrowly wide.

Toure now seems to be okay, so it looks like Cleary’s debut will have to wait.

Meanwhile, Bordeaux continue to threaten and they have just won a corner.

Decent build-up play from Liverpool before Can blasts a shot well over.

Coutinho, in particular, is looking bright, and produced an excellent through pass to start that attack.

Moreno plays through Origi, who blasts a shot just wide when through on goal.

It’s adjudged just offside anyway, but it wasn’t the best of finishes either way.

Meanwhile, Toure has ultimately gone off, but he’s replaced by Chirivella rather than Cleary.

It’s been a quiet last few minutes, with neither team really threatening.

Meanwhile, Ajax have equalised against Celtic.

Saivet hits a powerful free-kick that deflects kindly into the arms of Mignolet.

Bordeaux have definitely had the better of the game in the last few minutes.

Lallana attempts to play through Coutinho, but Gajic makes a timely interception.

It’s been an entertaining first half, even if it is a largely reserve team for Liverpool.

Liverpool have been a little disappointing in the final third so far.

The visitors have never really looked like scoring despite a promising start.

Rolan latches on to a clever lofted through ball but scuffs his subsequent shot well over.

Down the other end, Pallois makes a good last-ditch challenge to prevent Lallana bursting through on goal.

Lustig has given Celtic the lead again just before half-time.

Meanwhile, Khazri charges towards goal with the Liverpool defence backing off, but his shot is straight at Mignolet.

Down the other end, Coutinho’s drive from just outside the box comes back off the post.

HALF-TIME: BORDEAUX 0-0 LIVERPOOL

So a mixed half for Liverpool. The Reds started off well and had a few half-chances.

However, Bordeaux came into the game more as the half developed and had the best chance of the game when Rolan lofted a one-on-one just over the bar.

However, overall, Liverpool’s experimental side has coped reasonably well under the circumstances.

The second half has begun…

Sakho has just hit an aimless long ball straight onto the opposition defender’s head.

Liverpool will need to do much better than that if they want to break down their opponents.

Liverpool have started this half relatively well and are pushing up in search of a goal.

However, as I type, Bordeaux have just produced a decent string of passes together.

Half chance for Bordeaux as Saivet’s diving header finds the side-netting.

This game could very much go either way right now.

Good challenge by Poundje to stop Jordan Ibe breaking on the right.

The young winger has had a quiet enough game so far.

So close! Mignolet denies Maurice-Belay from close-range after the Liverpool defence fail to deal with a cross.

The rebound then deflects off Crivelli’s foot and goes just wide.

That’s a big let-off for the visitors.

BORDEAUX 0-1 LIVERPOOL (LALLANA 66)

Great goal from Adam Lallana!

He nutmegs the defender before casually slotting the ball into the corner of the net.

Here’s a look at that piece of individual brilliance from Lallana.

It’s interesting because Lallana had been having a poor enough game before that goal, but the former Southampton man has certainly justified his selection now.

Meanwhile, Danny Ings replaces Origi with 20 minutes remaining.

Crivelli then volleys towards goal but Mignolet makes a comfortable enough save.

Danny Ings almost made an impact immediately after coming on.

The striker completely outfoxed the defender with his first touch, but his subsequent effort was well saved by Carrasso.

Bordeaux are starting to amp up the pressure on the visitors goal now.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Cameron Brannagan replaces Jordan Rossiter for Liverpool.

BORDEAUX 1-1 LIVERPOOL (JUSSIE 80)

Can gets a tackle in on the edge of the box, but the ball falls to substitute Jussiê, whose powerful shot leaves Mignolet with no chance.

That had looked like it was coming, with Liverpool inviting pressure in the last few minutes.

Here’s a look at the equaliser…

The ball falls to Brannagan on the edge of the box, but he shoots well over.

Looks like Liverpool will have to settle for a point.

Some nervous moments for Liverpool in the dying minutes.

A corner has just been half cleared as Bordeaux intensify the pressure late on.

There will be three minutes of added time.

Brendan Rodgers may not be too disappointed with a draw here.

It’s a young, inexperienced team who have coped reasonably well with this difficult test.

FULL-TIME: BORDEAUX 1-1 LIVERPOOL

So that’s that. On reflection, a draw is probably a fair result. Both sides had spells on top and were fairly evenly matched overall.

While he will feel disappointed with the concession of a late equaliser, Brendan Rodgers will be happy overall with how several of his more inexperienced players handled the occasion, with the likes of Jordan Rossiter picking up invaluable experience.

Adam Lallana was his usual enigmatic self, putting in a disappointing display in the first half, before making up for it with a stunning piece of individual brilliance in the second.

Right, that’s all from me for now, but we’ll have plenty more reaction to follow.
